The National Rocketry Competition Begins!

On August 5th, 2017, the inaugural year of the National Rocketry Competition (NRC) began. 
This means that the new Sporting Code (competition rulebook) can be used to fly the six events that comprise the first National Rocketry Competition.

A Streamer Duration
A Helicopter Duration
A Payload Altitude- Altimeter
C Eggloft Altitude- Altimeter

To sanction an NRC launch and begin finding out how your flying skills in any or all of these six events stack up against everyone else in your competition age division, go to NAR.org > Contest Flying > Register an NAR Launch and fill out the online form selecting NRC Launch in the Event Types window. Fill out the rest of the information and you're on your way to flying the NRC!

Temporary explanation:

The biggest basic change to the contest rules is how the regular season is run.  There used to be a limited number of contests, such as regional contests. Fliers could fly up to 4 regional contests, with points being accumulated from the results of each contest, for a regular season score.

Under the new system for the National Rocketry Competition (NRC), there are six sanctioned events which everyone can fly at local launches. The scores are reported online, the scoreboard shown at this link:

So, national results are now more like a “postal” contest, flight results compared against other fliers.

There is no limit on the number of contests  person can fly in. So if someone wanted to, they could fly at 10 contests, to try to get their best possible score in any given event, at any of the contests. No need to fly all of the events, the local contests are opportunities to put up a “best score” for individual events. A person might get their best Parachute Duration score for the year at their first contest, and struggle to get a good score in the glider event until the last one they fly (Season ends June 30th).
   
The six  NRC events for this 2017-2018 season are:

C Eggloft Altitude- Altimeter
      
  At the end of the regular season, the top 10 ranked competitors (or top 10%) in each age division (who also have a qualified flight in all 6 events), will qualify to compete for the National Championship at NARAM. The season rankings will not carry-over, everyone who qualifies for National Champion awards will begin NARAM with zero points, the championships will be determined by points scored in all of the events held at NARAM.

The above NRC events will be held at NARAM-60 in Pueblo, CO, in addition to these events:

B Cluster Altitude - Altimeter   (5 engine cluster using B engines)
C Superroc  Altitude - Altimeter
Classic Model
Sport Scale
R&D

So far the NCR events are going well here with the GRC 790 group.  Weather, of course, is what we have to endure during the winter and fall time ( I do miss the year-round Southern California weather where I used to live), but it is going well so far. Mr. Wolf has been supportive when it comes to us submitting the data with the contest manager software for the NAR scoreboard.
